A Seamless Move

Walking into your luxurious, new Ryan’s Crossing home for the first time is an exhilarating moment, knowing that every space was designed with intention, comfort, and for your lifestyle. From the smell of fresh paint to the stunning finishes, a custom-built home is so much more than a place to live; it’s a reflection of who you are. The process of moving, however, is not always as exciting as it can be quite overwhelming if not handled with care.

Moving into a new construction home comes with its own unique opportunities and challenges. We’ve packed a plethora of helpful tips to ensure your move to the gorgeous Ryan’s Crossing community is as smooth and sophisticated as your new home.

●      The Final Walkthrough: Before scheduling movers or packing boxes, meet with your builder for a final, detailed walkthrough of your dream home. While the Ryan’s Crossing building team is known for its precision and attention to detail, a final walkthrough is an ideal time to note any items that may have been overlooked. Test every faucet, check every cabinet, and flip every light switch to make sure all are functioning as expected. During this walkthrough, review all warranties and learn everything you can about running your appliances, HVAC system, and custom features. Don’t forget to bring along a notebook!

●      Measure Twice, Move Once: Ryan’s Crossing’s custom-built homes often include wide open spaces, soaring ceilings, and unique architectural features. These beautiful features may make your current furniture look small or mismatched. Before moving day, request a copy of the finalized floor plan with room dimensions, door widths, and ceiling heights. Measure everything: rugs, sectionals, headboards, light fixtures, and even wall hangings. With homes that feature grand foyers, formal dining rooms, sculleries, or wine cellars, there are endless spaces to fill. Resist the urge to rush! Sometimes, less is more, and taking your time may give you new ideas on how to use each space. Should you opt to buy new furnishings, working with a professional interior designer can be a game-changer as they understand scale, proportion, and luxury aesthetics.

●      Things to Set Up Early: Before move-in day, update all utility accounts with your name and move-in date. Have your Wi-Fi installed early so that any smart features have a stable internet connection for activation. Work with your builder to program lighting or set thermostat zones. If installing a security system, have it set up prior to move-in day to add an extra layer of comfort as you settle in. Talk to your insurance agent to ensure that your new, luxury home has proper coverage, especially if adding an outdoor kitchen, pool, wine cellar and other custom features.

●      Landscape Long-Term: While your home’s interior may be finished, new construction landscaping often needs time to thrive. Consider working with a landscape designer to create a layered, multi-season appeal with native plants, outdoor lighting, and water features. Want even more comfort? Install irrigation systems or mosquito-repellent misting zones.

If moving with pets and/or children, there are a few more steps to take to ensure a smooth transition.

●      Involve your children in the building process so that they are familiar with their new home before they see it for the first time.

●      Talk to your children about what they are excited about and what might be making them nervous.

●      Visit your children’s new school several times before that first day of classes. You’ll also need to register your children and make sure the transportation office knows that there will be a new bus rider on the block.

●      Do a final walk-through with your children and pets, as well! Pack a picnic and visit your new home together before moving day, and play a game, allowing them to imagine what each room will look like.

●      Let your dog explore its new surroundings to give it the official “sniff” test.

●      On moving day, consider boarding your pets to reduce stress for them and you!

●      Once settled in, settle your pets in slowly. Slowly introduce them to the house by limiting them to a few rooms at a time. This will help reduce stress, accidents, and injuries.

Because there is so much to do when moving, it is easy to forget the personal housekeeping.

●      Let your company’s human resource team know that you’ve moved so that your employee profile can be updated.

●      Provide banks, insurance providers, and medical facilities with new details.

●      Schedule an appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicles to update your driver’s license and car registrations.

●      Submit a mail-forwarding request to the post office and then make a commitment to contact the sender of each envelope that arrives with a yellow “forwarding” sticker on it.

The best tip of all? CELEBRATE! Whether it’s a simple champagne toast on the patio or a housewarming party with friends and family, celebrate your moving milestone.
